The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced that they will host the Allan Houston Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday, September 13 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Houston, of course, is the former New York Knicks star who played in the NBA with the Pistons and Knicks between 1993 and 2005. This will be the second “celebrity host” event at Harbor Yard this season. Paul O’Neill “guest managed” the Bluefish to a 4-3 win over the Long Island Ducks in July. Pete Rose, MLB’s all-time hits king who has been banished from any association with big league teams since 1989 because of a betting scandal while he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds, was a “guest manager” last season.
In addition, the Bluefish have played the Stratford Brakettes, who captured their sixth straight Women’s Major Softball National Championship this season, in exhibition softball games for the past two seasons. The ’Fish are 2-0 in those contests. The Ballpark at Harbor Yard also hosted a “Heroes for Heroes” charity game between former Yankees and Red Sox stars in July.
